There are many things to appreciate about classic car restoration. From the nostalgia of fond memories to the dedication of hands-on labor, each aspect contributes to our commitment to our project cars. And when we finally take them out for a spin, the gratifying sign of heads turning as we cruise by is just one of the many rewards we reap from our passion for restoration.
For Unique Cars of Palm Beach, this passion for classic car restoration is not just a hobby but a way of life. With a deep understanding of the intricate craftsmanship and historical significance of each vehicle, they approach every restoration project with meticulous care and attention to detail. From selecting the perfect car to sourcing authentic parts and executing precision craftsmanship, their dedication shines through in every restored masterpiece. As they breathe new life into iconic Mercedes-Benz models like the 280SL Blue and the 290SL Arabian Grey, they continue to uphold the legacy of excellence that defines both the brand and the art of automotive restoration.
At the helm of this operation is Freddy Genatios, whose passion for classic cars was ignited by his grandfather's Mercedes-Benz. What began as a hobby eventually evolved into a full-time dedication to preserving automotive history through meticulous restoration. "The restoration process behind these cars is not something that everybody
can do," their team emphasizes. "It really takes a lot of time and effort, love, and dedication."
The journey of restoring a vintage Mercedes-Benz at Unique Cars of Palm Beach is a testament to their commitment to excellence. Each step in the process is marked by precision, expertise, and a deep respect for the brand's legacy. "We have an assembly line. It all starts with the careful selection of the ideal vehicle," Genatios explains. "Every car chosen for restoration undergoes a thorough evaluation of its history and condition." Once selected, the restoration process begins with a diagnostic assessment, ensuring that every detail is accounted for.
Genatios continues, "It takes around nine months to restore a car. The first thing we do is go through the car and check everything before we take it apart. Then, we take it completely apart, every nut and bolt out of the car. After that, the car goes to sandblasting and chemical treatment to take off all the paint it has. It's a full makeover. Then we start the bodywork; very few times, we have to do metalwork. We paint the car in the original factory brand, which is glossy. We provide a lifetime warranty on the paint if we do the complete process. Everything, from the engine to the components, is rebuilt from scratch."
The restoration journey itself is a labor of love, spanning months of work. From disassembly to sandblasting and chemical treatments, every step is executed with precision. The bodywork is a delicate process, often requiring metalwork to restore the car to its original glory.
