The Mint Julep has been a refreshing staple since it first emerged in the Southern United States during the 18th century. Crafted from a simple yet elegant blend of bourbon, sugar, mint, and crushed ice, it dazzles when served in a frosty silver cup. We like ours with bourbon, mint, simple syrup, and a rich, clear crème de cacao.
Constructed like traditional juleps, we pack the crushed ice generously into the silver mug until it becomes frosted on the outside. Then, for good measure and a whole lot of fun, we garnish the rim with a “knock on your door” Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookie.
• 8 to 10 fresh mint leaves
• 1/4-ounce simple syrup
• 1 1/2 ounces bourbon
• 1/2-ounce white creme de cacao
• Garnish: mint sprig
• Garnish: Thin Mint cookie
1. Place the mint leaves and simple syrup into a julep cup and gently muddle.
2. Add the bourbon and white créme de cacao, then pack the cup halfway with crushed ice.
3. Stir until the cup is frosted on the outside.
4. Top with more crushed ice to form a mound.
5. Garnish with a mint sprig and a Thin Mint cookie.
